About
News UK
Sum up what you do at News UK in the shortest sentence possible.
I produce commercial and editorial videos.
Lay a bit of context on that?
I research content, work with clients and write scripts for projects. I work closely with creatives, designers, editors and other production team members to make sure that our projects match the brief.
What attracted you to the role in the first place?
I love creating content and working in collaborative environments, and I am a big fan of News UK’s platforms.
What’s the most interesting/challenging part of your job?
The most interesting and challenging part of my job is trying to align different stakeholders’ creative visions.
What are the three most important things on your working agenda today?
1. To help out with a talkSPORT shoot at Arsenal Emirates stadium.
2. To write scripts for Times Money Mentor about jargon.
3. To lend my hands for a Morrisons shoot with the Sun!
Last book, film, binge watch and sounds you consumed?
The last book I read was Blue Bird Blue Bird, by Atticka Locke. It was really good, great if you love books about race politics, the American South and detective stories! I’m currently reading The Interestings by Meg Wolitzer, which I recommend if you like a strong narrative voice, multiple characters and books that draw on the passing of time.
The last film I watched was Mank, with Gary Oldman. I didn’t really love it to be honest but I reckon it will win some awards.
The last TV show I watched was Married at First Sight Australia. Don’t judge just watch it.
The last podcast I listened to was Maggie O’Farrell being interviewed on Fortunately, with Fi and Jane. I LOVED it.
Also, I recently enjoyed listening to Sathnam Sanghera being interviewed by Krishnu Guru Murphy on Ways to Change the World.
Who is your role model? And why?
Emily Maitliss is definitely a role model of mine. Her book Airhead was a brilliant read because she is so honest and kind about other people, whilst being intelligent and intuitive when reflecting on her reporting.
She also worked really hard to get where she is today.
What is your most treasured possession?
My most treasured possession is my Pink Chilly’s water bottle. Hydration is key!
Who would play you in the film of your life?
I’ve heard Tina Fey before but I’m worried it might be Sacha Baron Cohen. He seems to be playing everyone at the moment.
Last holiday destination? And why?
My last holiday destination was Paris. It was mid-March 2020 and probably not the wisest decision to go but I am so glad that I did! Not sure when I’ll next getaway but I hope it’s to Israel to see my brother and sister.
You’ve won ten million on the Lottery – what do you do?
With 10 million, I’d probably buy a couple of homes and then go on a ridiculous Kardashian-style holiday. I’d also throw a big party post-Covid and I’d buy a dishwasher.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
“People forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but they’ll never forget the way that you make them feel.”
It’s a Maya Angelou quote, and my Dad always says it to us.
What one bit of advice would you give someone wanting to do your job?
Stay in communication with everyone in the project, and write things down!
Tell us something not many people know about you…?
I’m obsessed with the history of place names.
